No Summer Slump

It has been a great summer at SRC as we have grown numerically and are preparing for an amazing fall. I took the summer off from speaking and the team came through with flying colors. I’m proud of the staff, whether they speak or minister in another capacity.

This fall we focus on launching three campuses in San Diego in 2012. One will be in North Park, another will be Spanish language in City Heights and a third will be in the SDSU area. More about these locations in the coming weeks.

Change Series Update

We are doing three new message series at Sweetwater River Church based on 2 Corinthians. The first series is titled Change and is focused on character qualities that we need to possess as we live in changing times. It has been exciting and challenging to learn how comfort, integrity, tenderness, and others can make a difference in how we live.

I have found that character qualities are easily ignored when it comes to day to day living. The more of God’s character we have in us. the easier it becomes to live successful lives.

This is our new message series at Sweetwater River Church that begins this Sunday. I’ve discovered so many people that haven’t tuned into the story that God has for their lives. Only when you follow God’s story do you find the sense of fulfillment that we are looking for.

Reflections on Sunday

We had a great Sunday at Sweetwater River Church with Romie Cervantes. She has been a chaplain at Las Colinas Correctional Facility and founded Love Bridge, helping women make the transition from the prison house to God’s house. Romie is 72 and has the energy of a person half her age. She was an encouragement to all of us that God still wants to use us.

I’m encouraged that lately about 10% of our attendance consists of people who have been at SRC for a month or less. It is exciting to see new faces and watch God work in their lives.

I ended Sunday evening in our couples small group- a great time to learn how to make our marriages even better. I want to be a forever learner when it comes to my marriage.

Jesus: In His Own Words

In two weeks we test drive our new church site- a cafe in the North Park area of San Diego. For the three summer services I am doing a message series about who Jesus said he was. I think this is important because our target audience is unchurched people that have heard a lot about Jesus but may be unfamilar with what Jesus said about himself.

I need your help. I’ve taken some statements that Jesus made about himself in the Gospel of John. I need to take this list and reduce it down to three statements. Here’s your opportunity to give your input. Think like an unchurched person and let me know which three statements I should speak on.
