Healthy Families are Built, Not Born

heart

I’ve been doing a relationship series at Sweetwater River Church. The first two messages were about families. We sometimes have the mistaken notion that a healthy family just “happens”. In reality, a healthy family is built through much hard work. If you are a parent, you have to possess a determination that your family is going to thrive, even through difficult times,  by God’s help.

The Old Testament leader Joshua was giving his farewell address to the people of Israel at the end of his life. He was challenging them to live for God byletting them know that it will be hard work. In Joshua 24:15 he expresses his determination for his own family: But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve., whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the river, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.

Look for one thing that you can build into your family this week- whether it be compassion or honesty or servanthood- and begin the building process. Over time, you can build a healthy family and keep it that way.
