Selective Obedience

I’m a lifelong Californian and I’ve noticed that we tend to be pretty selective about what laws we decide to obey and which laws we decide to ignore when driving in our cars.

A couple of examples:

  1. Californians almost never toss litter out the window.
  2. I have never seen anyone fail to wait for the metering light to turn green before getting on the freeway. Metering lights on are during commute times on busy city freeways but it would be easy to just hit the accelerator and ignore the light.
  3. We still talk on cellphones all the time even though it has been illegal since last year.
  4. Californians speed all the time- even if they’re not late.

Got any observations you’d like to add of your own?
