The new Star Trek movie comes out today. Either through television or movies, Star Trek has been around for decades. I remember watching the original show on Friday nights after cub scouts. The franchise had become stale and lost its way. Not this new movie. It has a younger crew with an up to date feel. Star Trek has been re-interpreted for a new generation.
The lesson for those involved in ministry is that what once worked in the past may now be old and unappealing. A good ministry needs to be retooled for a new generation that may not have even been around to see the original. We have to keep asking ourselves “How does this look to a 15 year-old, a 21 year-old, a 30 year-old?
Four good evaluation questions:
- What’s right?
- What’s wrong?
- What’s missing?
- What’s confused?

A friend of mine watched it, and he was a total die-hard fan. He loves the new movie! I know he is quite the puritan on certain things, so I’ll trust his opinion. I think that when watching a movie, always keep an open mind. You’ll never know what will hit you.
Keep positive!
