I just had a meeting with our nominating committee to select new deacons. We are blessed with some great people who will make great leaders- we are going to expand our board one or two slots.
The nominating process made me think about some of the variables that make a great leadership team:
- Seasoned leaders mixed with new leaders. I love the wisdom of those who have been around the block a few times and I also relish the fresh approach new leaders bring to an organization. There should be a healthy mix between new and veteran leaders.
- Ethnic and gender mix. Its got to be a consideration for us. We’ve worked too hard to be a diverse church. We can’t retract from this goal so the mix does determine, to a certain degree, our leadership team.
- Spiritual and professional considerations. We want leaders who know how to pray and leaders who know how to establish a budget. Great prayer warriors don’t automatically make great leaders no do great business people. An ideal leader is a spiritually minded and earthly grounded person!
Come next Sunday our leadership team should be even better.
