These are some of the books on my nightstand:
“Lost and Found: The Younger Unchurched and the Churches That Reach Them” by Ed Stetzer. I got this book free on the condition that I post a book review on my blog. I’m looking forward to reading it.
“The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius”. St. Ignatius is the founder of the Jesuits in the 1500′s. He created his exercises for those who joined the Jesuit order to facilitate spiritual growth. I’ve always heard about his exercises and never read them. I found this book at a used bookstore.
“The Jesuit and the Skull: Teilhard de Chardin, Evolution, and the Search for Peking Man” by Amir Aczel. I bought this book at Costco. It is a bit history, a bit science and a bit biography. Teilhard de Chardin was a priest and scientist who tried to reconcile his faith in Jesus with his belief in evolution. He died in 1956.
“The Shack” by William Young. I don’t usually like Christian fiction (I have never read a book from the Left Behind Series) but this book has me intrigued. Its been slammed as not being theologically accurate but that isn’t the point of fictional writing.
“Your Travel Guide to Ancient Rome” by Rita Markel. This book is written for a traveler to Rome in the year 325 AD. It is interesting- mixing customs and history together- for a fun and fact-filled read.
Not included in this list: I usually read popular fiction and the classics. I’m inbetween books now. I just finished “Crime and Punishment” by Dostoesvsky which took me quite awhile to finish. Some of my favorite authors are Garbriel Garcia Marquez, Arturo Perez Reverte and Stephen Carter.
