I survived my first youth group meeting as interim youth pastor last night. Actually it was a blast. I was joined by one of our staffers, Sue Hegle, as we began a study in the Gospel of Matthew. It was conversation, Bibles, and a chalk wall where the youth wrote their applications from what they read. It went well. I’m hoping that I can get teens excited about God’s word and see its relevance to everyday life.
We’re using two questions as we begin to read through Matthew: So what? and Now what? Reading through the geneaology of Chapter 1 they uncovered that 1) God forgives all sin (Rahab- a former prostitute) and 2) It doesn’t matter what you’ve done, God can use you (again Rahab). They also came up with 3) God can use anyone (Josiah- became a great king for Israel at the age of 8).
Listening to these kids last night I am convinced that today’s youth can proclaim a purer faith than my generation has proclaimed.
